The Rhondda Civic Society is a self-financing, non-sectarian organisation of individuals from all walks of life whose Executive Committee meets once a month at Ysbyty George Thomas, Treorchy to discuss various projects such as enflowerment [flower beds and tubs], potential siting of appropriate statues, blue plaques and other items which affect the Rhondda area.
We have a full social programme for the year which includes three fund-raising events – a Poems and Pints Evening in Spring, a Sponsored Walk in Summer and a Quiz Night in the Autumn.
Our Annual General Meeting in May always includes a Talk and Presentation on a local subject and the Talk/Presentation is open to the general public as well as Members.
The Society also holds several other Open Meetings throughout the year with interesting local speakers and topics. These are also open to the general public.
The nature of the Society’s business is to make Rhondda a better place to live, work and play by preserving, enhancing or improving the environment. It develops civic pride and galvanises the people’s will to do so.
